The picture-perfect Pomsky is no doubt gorgeous with those stunning Husky features made up in miniature (which you’ll learn more about in this Pomsky size guide).

This unlikely combination of Siberian Husky and Pomeranian is a dream for anyone looking for a slightly more manageable version of these undeniably gorgeous wolf-like canines.

However, Pomskies are not the same as Mini Huskies, the latter of which were selectively bred using small-sized pure-breed Huskies.

Combining a big dog with a small dog of an entirely different breed can have very unpredictable consequences.

An important question you should be asking yourself is exactly how big can a Pomsky get?

Pomsky Size Predictions by Age

Cute, silly, and confident Pomskies are active dogs that require a relatively large amount of physical and mental stimulation to stop them from getting bored.

They love to play and be the center of attention, and they are often quite vocal – a trait they inherit from their chatty Husky ancestors.

This breed is best suited to experienced dog owners given their Pomeranian unpredictability, Husky stubbornness, and a thick double coat, which they inherit from both parents and that tends to shed all over the shop.

As a relatively new crossbreed, Pomskies have no clear standards for size, appearance, or personality.

What we know, we know only through looking at the Husky and the Pom – and these two dogs couldn’t be more different.

The size factor alone makes it tricky to know just what you might be getting if you pick up a Pomsky pup.

In the future, Pomskies might be further crossbred with either Huskies, Pomeranians, or other Pomskies to more clearly lock specific traits into the breed, such as the Husky looks or the Pom size. However, most Pomskies at present are first-generation with 50/50 Husky to Pomeranian genes.

So there is a significant amount of variety in the breed.

By 12 months, they have likely reached their full height but may continue to fill out until they are 18 months old.

As with most smaller dogs, Pomeranians do pretty much all of their growing in the first six months of life, reaching their adult height somewhere between 6 and 10 months of age and their adult weight by approximately one year old.

Are There Different Sizes of Pomsky?

You better believe there are different sizes of Pomsky – and how! Unlike Poodles, though with their three distinct size categories, variations in Pomsky size result from the massive difference between the heights and weights of the two parent breeds (see above).

Huskies are surprisingly categorized as a medium rather than a large breed, but Pomeranians are toy dogs.

So, often many Pomskies will fall somewhere in the small category. However, genetics are unpredictable, and so you could just as easily end up with a medium-sized dog.

So, make sure you are prepared for that when opting for this breed.

While the only real way you can know how big a Pomsky is likely to get before adopting them is to find an adult dog down at your local shelter, observing your pup’s growth patterns at certain milestones can help you have some idea of what to expect.

Many dogs have their most significant growth period in the first 6 months of their lives, so we can anticipate this being the case for the Pomsky too.

Small dogs tend to hit 50% of their adult height and weight between 3 and 4 months, and then get to full height between 8 and 10 months and full weight between 12 and 15 months.

How Big is a Full-Grown Pomsky?

Early observations of Pomskies show that they tend to be small dogs, but not toy ones.

They generally are somewhere between 13-18 inches tall to the withers and weigh around 20-30 pounds.

However, suppose larger than average sized dogs were used in the breeding.

In that case, they could fall into the early medium-sized classification of 18-24 inches and 30-60 pounds.

Although they will likely still be at the low end of the scale.

We can approximate that Pomskies usually get to half their full weight around 3.5 to 5 months and their adult weight at roughly 11-13 months.

You can calculate their potential adult weight at 18 weeks by taking what they weigh at that age and multiplying it by two.

A different formula you could use is:

Growth = current weight / current age in weeks
Adult weight = Growth x 52 (number of weeks in one year)

What Age is a Pomsky Fully Grown By?

Your Pomsky will likely have acquired much of their adult size and weight by 10 months.

Although they will often continue to grow in girth for a couple of months after that.

The actual age of full maturity will depend somewhat on whether they are destined to be a small or medium-sized dog.

Larger dogs naturally take longer to reach their full size.

If you are considering purchasing or adopting a young Pomsky, you should be aware of the difficulties in predicting which traits they may have inherited from the parent breeds – this includes their size.

As newish dogs, there is still so much for us to learn about this breed.

You need to be flexible to accommodate a small to medium-sized dog.
